DREAM: A Creative Writing Workshop

DREAM  is a highly interactive, award winning, performance arts workshop that not only teaches participants the art of creative self-expression but also encourages each individual to reach deep inside to discover their true passions.  Internationally renowned performance poet and social service veteran Mr. Mike Guinn facilitates this powerfully creative journey in a manner that makes this a fun, safe and most of all empowering workshop experience. Participants are provided writing prompts and then are taken through a series of exercises designed to expose them to a different sides of themselves. This innovative, respectful and highly engaging technique challenges each participant as well as supports their spiritual awareness and cultural individuality. If you’re seeking a fresh approach to emotional empowerment then this workshop offers just that. A life-changing experience that instills confidence and develops skills that promote the importance of respect for community, self and others.  All materials provided. Biography:
Michael Guinn is an internationally renowned spokenword artist, author, actor and activist whose professional journey includes work as a consultant, host and speaker for numerous organizations nationwide. For the past 19 years he has coordinated weekly, monthly and annual performance platforms for major conferences like Mega Fest, the NAACP Image Awards and the Toronto and Austin International Poetry Festivals just to name a few. Mike has a legendary reputation for contributing his boundless energy and unique insight to movie promotions, conferences, youth symposiums and countless other social awareness events. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin and a Master’s degree from UT-Arlington (Both in social work) and fuses creative writing and social awareness to create a highly engaging platform that uplifts and inspires with a purpose.  Mr. Guinn is an incredibly dedicated social worker turned activist from Jacksonville Tx and has been recognized nationally and internationally for creating positive platforms for creative self-expression for at-risk youth coping with the challenges of mental health.  He has appeared several times on Good Morning Texas, KTYX CBS19 and been featured in several magazines, radio shows and documentaries globally.  Michael is community leader who consistently promotes social awareness and responsibility with his youth via the art of poetry and spokenword.  For the past 15 years his successful community focused approach has demonstrated a working knowledge of youth from diverse backgrounds, social challenges, and cultures in identifying and implementing innovative strategies that foster the value of their social, emotional, academic, and educational development. Because of his unique, passionate approach to creative self-expression, participants gain an immediate sense of empowerment that compliments classroom instruction and enhances a desire to listen, respect and uplift each other. Michael currently works as a Permanent Supportive Housing Coach with CitySquare’s TRAC Housing Program.
